JansZen Z-2-CF
The JansZen Z‑2‑CF is one of the more unusual and rarely seen entries in the long lineage of Arthur Janszen–inspired electrostatic loudspeakers. Built in the early 1970s, the Z‑2‑CF is a hybrid electrostatic system, pairing dynamic Sony 10-inch woofers with JansZen’s signature electrostatic high‑frequency panels—the same style of energized, plug‑in panels that require AC power to operate making it a true ES/hybrid loudspeaker. The result is the classic JansZen sound:
Open, transparent treble,
Planar‑like clarity, and
A surprisingly wide soundstage for a ’70s speaker.
Owners describe them as “very open” and unusually airy compared to typical box speakers of the time. Cabinet construction is also a highlight: these use solid walnut sides, with the electrostatic arrays mounted inside a forward-facing lens structure.
